B.B.F. (Bonded By Friendship)

The name sounds a little bit corny but that name explains why we came up with a group. The three of us were part of the Champions League of 12 for Search for the Star in a Million. During the competition we became close friends because we had the same goals and dreams in life. We did not consider ourselves as a typical boyband because we didnt focus in harmony and voicing with songs. We have different genre of music. 3 solo artists packaged as 1. Jorell with R&B, Billy with Alternative Rock, and me with POP/R&B.

Professional Theater Actor? hmm.. i didnt think I would make it this far. This is my first theater experience and I didnt expect its gonna be this big.

This is an Article for FOOTLOOSE THE MUSICAL by STAGES

Footloose – the iconic, restless film made in the ‘80s has come to three-dimensional life onstage with even greater energetic fervor in Footloose the Musical, adapted for the stage by its original creator Dean Pitchford for its Broadway run, and will be staged in Manila by STAGES from Sept. 2- 25 at the Meralco Theater.

In the small, heartland town of Bomont, dancing, rock ‘n roll, and partying of any kind is prohibited by law. Imagine the effect this decree has on the town’s young people, who, though resigned to their mundane fate, are just hormonally-driven time bombs just waiting to explode.

It is to this town that city-bred Ren McCormack (played by ‘Prince of R&B’ Jay-R and alternate Jonard Yanzon) and his mother Ethel (played by Carla Martinez) move after Ren’s father took off.

Through two acts, the story takes the town on an eye-opening journey via such chart-topping hits from the ‘80s as “Almost Paradise”, “Holding Out For A Hero”, “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”, and the theme “Footloose” in the same way recent screen-to-stage productions of Fame and Saturday Night Fever the Musical turned their film versions’ classic soundtracks into viable theater libretti.

Unlike those musicals, however, the Footloose movie soundtrack—plus a few additional songs—is used to actually move the story along, as well as to provide the right atmosphere and allow its characters to “speak” from their hearts.

Another featured character of this production, perhaps, is the dancing. With infectious music that was made for far more than mere toe-tapping, Ren McCormack takes an entire town dancing and sets them footloose and free—both literally and figuratively.

Footloose the Musical’s young, energetic cast is a mix of talents coming from mainstream television, theatre and the recording scene including Jay-R, Myx VJ Iya Villania, Jonard Yanzon and Gian Magdangal of vocal group 17:28, ABS-CBN talents Nikki Valdez, Maoui David, Search for the Star in A Million Finalist Veejay Aragon and Daniel Cabrera, MTV VJ Hunt finalist Marvin Luna, Caissa Borromeo, Monica Reynoso, Kyla Rivera, Dara David, Pom Docena, Johann dela Fuente, Andrei Pamintuan, Felix Rivera, Sen Nichols, Kenjie Villacorte, and JC Gotinga.

Heading the list of seasoned veterans who will be lending top-notch support to the young cast are veteran actors Audie Gemora, Agot Isidro, Carla Martinez, Raul Montessa, John Mulhall, Jennie Nuyda, Mitch dela Peña, Raymund Concepcion, Robbie Guevarra and Ana Agabin.

Chari Arespacochaga directs the musical with James Laforteza and Rene Sagaran of the Manoeuvres as choreographers, IJ Garcia as musical director, Kalila Aguilos as stylist and costume designer, Mio Infante as scenographer, and Dong Calingacion as lights designer.

A second look at the original film version reveals Footloose’s core material to be rich in life and love, passion and sentiment, with a story and characters that lend themselves surprisingly well to this musical theater transformation. Exhilarating, and life-affirming—even after more than two decades, the result is something familiar, and yet ultimately fresh and unlike anything else anyone has experienced in the theater.

Among its many joys, Footloose has always had the power to make one realize what it means to be young again.

Footloose the Musical will run at the Meralco Theater on September 2, 3, 9, 10, 16,17, 23, 24 at 8 p.m. and on September 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 at 3 p.m. For tickets, contact Ticketworld at 891-9999 or at www.ticketworld.com.ph or call 635-4478 or 631-7252.

Footloose the Musical is presented by Myx, in cooperation with Samsung, Studio 23, ABS-CBN, and Gold’s Gym. Major sponsors are Avon and Bench, while minor sponsors include Red Crab, Marina, Discovery Suites, Image 1 Multimedia Corp., Urban Spa, Chowking, Gloria Jeans Coffee, New Trends, Unisilver, Rustan’s, Teriyaki Boy, and Meralco. Media Partners are DZAS, 105.1 Crossover, Home Radio, Joey, Monster Radio RX, NU 107, RJFM 100, WRR, Philippine STAR, Manila Bulletin, Manila Times, Lifestyle Network, JobsDB.Com, Philippine Graphic and Mirror Magazines, INQ7.Net, YOU, 24/7 e-zine, Fudge Magazine and Pinoyexchange.com.

The musical released two different posters this was the first poster released without my name. I dont have a copy of the 2nd poster but in that particular 1 I have my name printed in the billing. Im the one wearing the green shirt. Nice!!

Here is the Billboard picture for the Musical. I'm the one wearing the red shirt on the left side. This pictorial was fun. It was done in FORT Bonifacio. It was funny because it rained before we even started shooting so it was wet and muddy.

KAPATID

To the outside world we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time and we love each other unconditionally.

I do not believe that the accident of birth makes people sisters and brothers. It makes them siblings. Gives them mutuality of parentage. Sisterhood and brotherhood are conditions people have to work at. It's a serious matter. You compromise, you give, you take, you stand firm, you're relentless, and you love unconditionally.

My Dream Came True!!

I've always wanted to be an Artist ever since I was a kid. I love to dance, sing, host and act. I can say it was 1 of my frustrations growing up. I became a local artist in Cebu because of Ang TV Cebu. But things seemed to stop there, no big opportunity came for me and that time i really want to be part of the main entertainment industry. I basically lost hope so what I did I just focused myself in school so I can graduate. Which I did. I was working already when out of nowhere an opportunity knocked on my doorsteps. Search for the Star In a Million. Everything came pouring in.

Here is my Article during my Star In a Million Stint.

Search for the Star in A Million

VEEJAY ARAGON “SINGER ON THE MOVE”
19 YRS OLD FROM CEBU CITY

He’s a former Ang TV Cebu talent, and now conquering Manila by storm. That’s Veejay Aragon, a wild card addition to the Champions League of 12. With oozing sexiness and charm, this alternative music addict could surely be Cebu’s next big hit to add to its long roster of Hitmakers.

But even before Veejay got into the league, nobody thought he would seriously audition for Search for the Star in a Million. Although he’s already had a year of television exposure and training in acting in Ang TV Cebu, he was never confident of his singing. He’s always been known more as a dancer, having been an active member of the San Diego Dance Company in Cebu where he mastered different styles in dancing—far from the singing image he now so avidly wants to pursue. Girls just can’t help but go wild whenever he starts to do his moves and tease them with his stance and energy.

Born in the laid back and serene city of Juana Osmena Cebu city, Veejay is a late bloomer in singing. His interest in singing started when he passed the audition in a theater production way back in high school. Though it was just a 3-minute role, his vocal gusto had been awakened. He’s never been confident with his singing, without any formal voice training and with the trauma of subjective and often unkind criticism from family and friends. “Nag-iingay ka lang kapag kumakanta ka,” was a comment he never forgot. He used the emotional trauma to add emotion to his dancing and singing. It was in his 4th year of highschool that he seriously decided to prove all those that didn’t believe in him wrong and pursue what he’s always enjoyed.

His eagerness in joining singing competitions was the same intensity in how he’d study his every dance move when he’d perform. But losing at times made him doubt his chosen craft. As many would say “Baka naman di ka pang kantahan, mas bagay ka sa sayaw.” Applying the principles of dancing to singing, Veejay practiced and practiced until he mastered his piece. Soon enough, he was defying naysayers left and right, turning the “Nyeee’s” to “Ahhh’s”.

Search for the Star in a Million made Veejay’s dream of becoming a singer into reality. From the day Agot Isidro told him that “…Kulang ka sa connect sa audience,” he has never stopped rehearsing in front of the mirror to capture the perfect emotions for the song. No doubt, his perseverance paid off and he made it to the champions league of twelve.

Now that he’s part of a trailblazing competition, he would like to be identified not just for his melodious voice but also for his versatility and upbeat style in singing which is mostly a fusion of pop and alternative, being a bit of a rocker himself. From Ang TV Cebu to your TV screens, Veejay is here to once again to make his mark.

Out of the thousand auditionees I was fortunate enough to reach the top 30 semifinalist. Out of those 30 they will pick 12 Finalist. They devided us in 3 groups with 10 contestants and every elimination they will pick 3. I was part of the 2nd elimination round and sadly only landed 4th in the ranking. I came back for the wild card event and luckily got in the Final 12. It was a dream came true for me eventhough we were still in the contest, Champions League of 12, it felt that I won already. Was able to sing in various ABS-CBN shows like MRS, Star Records Events and most specially ASAP. Got to meet big stars and my Idol Gary V. What a blessing!!!

I didnt win the contest Jerome did
(damn lyrics, lol) but it gave me an opportunity to meet a lot of important people in the industry which landed me into shows, concerts and even a musical play (which is a different story). I also got to record my own single in the Search for the Star in A Million Album. The title of my song was "Be Alone No More" t'was a revival from the original song of Another Level. (Please grab a copy of the Album)

Dreams do come true, I can attest to that. Patience and Hardwork is the key. Keep on Believing.
